TMD Crew win back to back World titles at Write4Gold 2008

22 August 2008

After taking out the Graffit World Title in Germany 2006, a lot of people on the international Graffiti scene stood up and took notice of this little, relatively unknown crew from the opposite corner of the globe.

Around rolls 2008, new year, new crews, new competition. Congratulations boys for putting NZ on the map and cementing it!

Bring on 2009!

Fitness finder quietly launched

9 May 2008

One of the parts of our biggest recent project, StarJump, had a section designed for helping its users find a local New Zealand gym to workout in. This part however has grown so big that it was decided to launch it as a site on its own.

As such we encourage you to check out fitnessfinder.co.nz. Currently the Auckland region is best served with over 100 gyms listed. However we are aiming to have complete coverage of all New Zealand gyms within 2 months. So check it out and let us know any feedback you have and if you want your gym listed feel free to contact us.

Wake up Skycity Cinemas!

5 March 2008

The Skycity Cinemas www.skycitycinemas.co.nz website was redesigned a couple of years ago. I have always found the site clunky with an ugly, unintuitive user interface. I was surprised on going to their website the other day to see it has again been overhauled. Two complete redesigns in a couple of years – a lot of companies would love that budget!

Unfortunately the site doesn’t seem to have improved in terms of user-friendliness, indeed the site is just as unintuitive as previously and is actually a lot uglier. It screams early nineties mashed with a slow Flash interface for selecting movies. The drop-down menus are just nasty.

I actually don’t know where to start so I’m just going to highlight a few of the shiners.

Remember what Trade Me used to look like?

26 July 2007

I’ve been saving this for long enough so that you’ve forgotten what Trade Me used to look like. One of the tenets of usability is learnability. How long does it take someone to learn how to use your program? How long will a change take to effectively “re-learn”? All changes affect familiarity so you must be careful but I think this change has proven itself to be not only effective in terms of making the site more visually appealing, more usable but also making the site more profitable because it has exposed a much greater advertising area. Bring down the two screen captures and compare them by quickly flicking back and forward between them a few times.

I remember when the change occured there was a fair amount of negative feedback but I don’t hear anyone complaining any more or did they just give up?

Balloon Day

4 May 2007

Saturday 5 May is Balloon Day, held by the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation, Balloon Day raises money for child asthma research and raises awareness of the high incidence of respiratory illness in New Zealand.

Hats off to Ogilvy who provided the creative campaign pro bono, the online campaign is great: www.breathtest.co.nz. Blow into your laptop microphone and see if you can inflate the balloon lungs. A simple, different and effective use of Flash that illustrates one in four children are unable to complete the task due to respiratory illness.

To make a donation visit www.asthmafoundation.org.nz or buy a balloon for a gold coin donation.
